Divorce for Muslim Marriages

Home Topics Divorce for Muslim Marriages
Divorce in Islam is governed by the Quran and other customary practices. These principles have been recognized by the law and this is what people are bound by. Since the origin of all this law is the Quran and many non-codified customs followed by people, the laws on marriage and divorce are not linear and clear. However, there are basic principles of what will constitute a valid divorce for Muslims across sects. This explainer can guide you on the broad applicable Islamic laws on divorce that have been accepted by the Indian Constitution, Courts and Legislation.

Divorce for Muslims is easily exercisable, more so than other religions since marriage is a contract under Islam. If you are a Muslim you do not need have been wronged (say cruelty) by your spouse to be able to initiate divorce proceedings unlike in other religions. You have options of divorce both by approaching the Court and simply settling it with your spouse.
