When you update your Ration Card, you get a new card with the details changed, as indicated by you. Please read below for information on the details that can be updated, and the procedure for updation.
You can update the following details:
- The number of family members covered
- Your personal details, like the name, etc.
- The details of the head of the household.
- Change in address
- Your photograph and biometric details
- Any other details of the family members covered in the Ration Card1
To update your Ration Card, follow the steps given below:
Step 1 –You should go to the Circle Office, and tell them what you need to update, on the basis of which, you will be provided with the relevant application form.
Step 2 – You should fill out the application form.
Step 3 – You should submit the relevant documents. The documents required vary from state to state, and also with respect to the details you need to update. For example, if you need to add a family member to be covered under the Card, you must provide his/her birth certificate.
Step 4 – You should get your documents verified.
Step 5 – You should collect your acknowledgement slip.
Step 6 – You can then collect your Ration Card/get it delivered. Some states have the facility to download it online. For example, in Delhi, you must download it online.

HOW TO CORRECT NAME IN RATION CARD:
1. First and foremost, users have to download the application form for Ration card correction from your State’s official Ration card portal.
2. Duly fill the form, and submit it at your nearest ration card office.
3. Along with the form, you will have to submit copies of your supporting documents.
4. Also, you will have to carry your original documents with you for verification.
5. Users will also have to take their original ration card with them to the office.
After verification, you will receive the new card with the updates made within two or three working days. The new card will be sent to the residential address mentioned in the correction form.

BPL cards are issued by state governments in India under the THE NATIONAL FOOD SECURITY ACT, 2013 (NFSA). Most state governments have digitised the process of applying and amending ration cards and the status of your request can be viewed online depending on which state you are from and what website your state uses for the purposes of ration cards and food security. Additionally, in case you are unable to access the website, we request you to visit your district’s Food Inspector’s office or the District Grievance Redressal Officer.

Ration card can be updated by going to a Common Service Centre in your area or it can be done online also. Go to your respective state’s food department website . Search for the Ration card update form and fill out the relevant details. Upload necessary documents such as identity proof , address proof and passport-sized photographs. Submit the form along with supporting documents. The authorities will then verify the details and once the verification is complete , you will receive an updated ration card either digitally or physically. You can also track the status of your application if you have applied online.

Here are the general steps to change your name on your ration card:
Gather the required documents. These may include:
Proof of name change, such as a marriage certificate, divorce decree, or gazette notification
Current ration card
Identity proof, such as an Aadhaar card, PAN card, or voter ID
Address proof
Visit the nearest Food and Civil Supplies Office or designated center
