Blocking Users on Phones

Last updated on Jun 8, 2022

If you are being harassed by someone through calls and texts, you can block them on your phones following these steps:

Android Phones

Block Calls

To block calls on Android, go to call history and click on the contact for a few seconds. Tap on the option “Add to Blacklist” and all the calls from that number will be rejected.

Block Texts

To block SMS’s on Android, go to the SMS list and click on the SMS you want to block for 2-3 seconds and you will see the block option on the top right corner of the screen. You will continue to receive messages from that number but won’t be notified anymore and the conversation will be archived.

Apple iPhones

With iOS, you can block contacts and phone numbers on your device. You can also filter iMessages from unknown senders and report iMessages that look like spam or junk. See here for further details on the same.

If your Snapchat account has been hacked and misused to send inappropriate messages to your friends, you should take immediate action to both secure your account and address the legal implications of unauthorized access and misuse. Here’s a step-by-step guide to handling the situation in India:
Immediate Steps to Secure Your Account
Reset Your Password: Change your Snapchat password immediately using the “Forgot your password” option on the login screen. Choose a strong password that is not easily guessable.
Enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA): This adds an extra layer of security by requiring not just a password but also a second factor, usually a code sent to your phone, before access is granted.
Review Account Activity: Check for any unusual activity, such as messages you did not send or friends added without your knowledge. Report any suspicious activity to Snapchat.
Contact Snapchat Support: Inform Snapchat about the hacking incident. They can help you secure your account and may be able to provide information about the unauthorized access.
Legal Actions in India
File a Police Complaint:
Under the Information Technology Act, 2000:
Section 43: Penalty and compensation for damage to a computer, computer system, etc., which includes unauthorized access and data manipulation.
Section 66C: Punishment for identity theft. This applies if someone fraudulently uses your password or any other unique identification feature.
Section 66D: Punishment for cheating by personation using computer resources.
Report the hacking incident to your local police station. You should provide them with all the details about the unauthorized access and misuse of your account.
Cyber Cell: Most states in India have a dedicated cyber cell that deals specifically with cybercrimes. You can contact them directly for more specialized assistance.
Document Everything:
Keep records of all communications related to the hack, including any messages sent from your account that you did not authorize.
Take screenshots that show when and how you discovered the hack.
Preventive Measures
Regularly update your passwords and use different passwords for different accounts.
Be wary of phishing attempts and suspicious links that might ask for your Snapchat or other login details.
