About Nyaaya

Nyaaya is an open access, digital resource that provides simple, actionable, recallable and authoritative legal information to Indian citizens. We want to enable access to information about the law in multiple Indian languages, so that access to justice is not limited to a privileged minority. Nyaaya has instituted a unique public-private legal aid network called Samvidhaan Fellowship. Through the Fellowship, Nyaaya’s network of district lawyers deliver high-quality legal assistance to underserved communities in selected districts.

About the Role

Nyaaya is looking for a passionate and driven individual to lead the country-level implementation and coordination of the Samvidhaan Fellowship and grow our Access to Justice Network. The role involves building strategic partnerships with civil society, academia, and government, and managing a countrywide network of lawyers. Ideal candidates will have strong project management, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills, along with a deep interest in India’s legal and justice systems.

Responsibilities

Samvidhaan Fellowship

Your primary task will be to lead the Nyaaya Samvidhaan Fellowship nationally. This will include:

  • Working closely with the State Fellowship Managers in Bihar and Karnataka to oversee the functioning of the fellowship at the state levels. This also includes periodic check-ins on deliverables, ideating and leading newer engagement and collaboration, expanding network of partners and information management of all fellowship activities.
  • Expanding Samvidhaan Fellowship to newer geographies, which will include scoping the state for need for legal intervention, finding and onboarding the fellows, formalising partnerships with local collaborators and network partners.
  • Working closely with Nyaaya’s Lead on the strategy for managing the existing geographies and the expansion plan for Samvidhaan Fellowship.
  • Planning and organising events for outreach in the current and proposed Fellowship states. 
  • Working with the State Fellowship Managers to collect feedback and impact statistics for monitoring and evaluation purposes.
  • Working with the communications team to oversee digital campaigns with partners from our Samvidhaan Fellowship network.
  • Liaising with the Fellows and partners to enable a smooth and seamless working relationship. 
  • Planning, finalising and implementing collaborations with governmental and quasi-governmental stakeholders and educational institutions. 

Partnerships and Outreach

  • Maintaining existing relationships and building new relationships with civil society organisations, government departments, corporates and individuals working in law and justice to run  campaigns (both online and offline) and amplifying the reach of Nyaaya’s content.
  • Planning, finalising and implementing collaborations (online and offline).
  • Working with the communications team to ensure the digital content pieces and collaborations run smoothly, including Nyaaya Weeklies, Nyaaya Lites, awareness campaigns like International Women’s Day, 16 Days of Activism etc. 
  • Developing collaboration proposals for new partners and work with the content team to develop the content for such collaborations. 
  • Drafting MoUs and agreements for partnerships and collaborations and facilitating the execution thereof.
  • Participating in multistakeholder meetings and events to represent Nyaaya and further Nyaaya’s outreach. 

Fundraising and Development

  • Preparing fundraising proposals for Nyaaya’s projects. 
  • Tracking the compliance requirements of existing funders and preparing impact reports on time. 

Requirements

  • Minimum three years of experience in either practicing or teaching law or working in a social development organisation.
  • Fluency in at least one regional language (Marathi or Hindi preferred) and English is mandatory for this role.  
  • Ability to take ownership of a project and manage end-to-end execution.
  • Ability to work in a cross-functional team.
  • Experience in network engagement with government and non-governmental agencies.
  • Passionate about gender and human rights advocacy.

Location and Remuneration

  • This is a full-time position and the candidate would be based out of any of Vidhi’s locations in Delhi, Mumbai or Bangalore. This role includes travel to Samvidhaan Fellowship locations. 
  • The remuneration is commensurate with experience.
