Key decisions around end of life care often relate to the withholding and withdrawing of life sustaining treatment i.e stopping medical care or deciding not to start medical care for patients for whom further treatment may not help. For instance, a decision not to revive someone who suffered a cardiac arrest or a decision to take someone off a ventilator.
End of life decisions are often taken for terminally ill persons or for those in a coma or a persistent vegetative state. Dhvani Mehta, co-founder and Vidhi Centre for Legal Policy explains the law dealing with end of life care and the making of living wills in India.
