About the Scheme:
The state government will pay a child’s guardian or carer Rs 4,000 a month as financial aid, until the child reaches adulthood. Children under the age of ten who are orphaned and have no family will be cared for by state government children’s homes. The state government will also provide an amount of Rs 1,01,000 for the marriage of girls under the age of ten who are orphaned and have no family .
Children, who have lost both of their parents to COVID-19, a surviving parent, legal guardian in case the parents have already died earlier, will be included in this scheme. Children, who have lost the earning parent of their family, will also be included in the scheme.
Validity & Timeframe:
The scheme started on 31st May, 2021. As of now, no end date has been notified.
How to Apply?
- The government will identify the orphans in their areas and upload their data to the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR).
- If any child is found to have lost parents to COVID, with no one to look after them, the child will be produced before the District Child Welfare Committee (CWC) within 24 hours, excluding journey time.
- Persons wishing to adopt orphan children may approach Central Adoption Resource Authority (cara.nic.in) for lawful adoptions.
