You can be punished if you say or write something to insult the reputation of a person, group of people or a company. However, it is important that this class or group of people can be identified.
You can be punished even if the person whose reputation you harmed is dead. What the Court will look at is whether the person’s reputation would have been hurt if they were alive. Another thing that the Court will consider is if your actions hurt the feelings of that person’s family or relatives. The legal representatives or the relatives can file the case for defamation on behalf of the deceased person.
Printing or engraving something defamatory to a person’s reputation is a crime. You can be punished with jail time of up to 2 years and/or with fine.
